[VERSE 1]
[A]Hoddy Holly was a cajun in the [D]town that I was raised in
[A]She was something most amazin' to my inexperienced [E]eyes
But the [A]fact was clearly stated she and [D]Big Dupree was mated
And a [A]dreadful fate awaited anyo[E]ne who touched his [A]bride
Cause he [D]said it loud and clear for [A]all the town to hear
And he nailed it up for all the town to [E]see
That the [A]man who puts his hand upon the hand of Hoddy [D]Holly
Will [E]feel the heavy hand of Big [A]Dupree
[VERSE 2]
But that d[A]angerous situation worked on [D]my imagination
And [A]passin' up temptation ain't the thing that I do [E]best
And you [A]know the way things happened one night [D]Dupree was out trappin'
And I [A]spent the evening nappin' with her [E]head upon my [A]chest
Then the [D]roar come from a door six foot [A]four maybe more
He stood standin' there and starin' right at[E] me
He said [A]boy you put your hand upon the hand of Hoddy [D]Holly
Now you'll f[E]eel the heavy hand of Big Du[A]pree
[VERSE 3]
Then cra[A]zed by ragin' passion he come da[D]shin' smashin' crashin'
And I f[A]elt his blade come slashin' through my shrieks and screams and g[E]roans
And there j[A]ust ain't nothin' worse than what he done to my [D]person
And I sp[A]end these evenings a cursin' him in slig[E]htly higher tones
Cause he [D]said it loud and clear for [A]all the town to hear
And he nailed it up for all the town to [E]see
