[INTRO]
[Gm] [Dm] [Fm] [Cm] [Ebm] [B] [A] [D]
[VERSE 1]
The [Gm]boy sits in a field tall [Dm]grass above his head, and he's thinking of the path that his[Cm] ancestors did tread
and as he's [Ebm]dreaming of the future a [B]mist does descend, and he [A]wonders if this is the
beginning or [D]is this the end
And out [Gm]of the mist a tall [Dm]creature does appear, his eyes wide and friendly,
his [Cm]face full of years, he says "we're [Ebm]going on a journey in my [B]hot air balloon,
and the [A]time is now so we [D]must get going soon".
[VERSE 2]
They [Gm]flew over the houses and the [Dm]streets they use to know,
over [Fm]trains going fast and [Cm]people going slow, there was [Ebm]snow on the mountains and [B]boats on the sea,
and there were [A]lovers in the forest carving their [D]names into a tree
The boys says "where are we [Gm]going, where [B]are we going to,
I'm [Fm]scared of the future and I'm [Cm]mildly scared of you,
the [Ebm]creature looked down and said "don't be [B]scared of the unknown",
we're [A]going to a place in [D]which I have grown.
[VERSE 3]
With a [Gm]sudden gush of wind the balloon [Dm]fell from the sky,
and the [Fm]boy shut his eyes and [Cm]hoped he wouldn't die,
the [Ebm]creature was calm, he had [B]done this before so he [A]landed the hot air balloon and he [D]opened the door
[VERSE 4]
The [Gm]boy walked out and he [Dm]couldn't believe his eyes,
there was a [Fm]flock of sheep [Cm]floating through the skies followed [Ebm]by a shepherd
going [B]along for the ride
the [A]boy wondered [D]what was going on.
[VERSE 5]
So he [Gm]walked through this land with the [Dm]creature by his side,
to his [Fm]left was a painter, [Cm]painting the tides,
and to his [Ebm]right a pack of [B]wolves did cry to the [A]rise and fall of the [D]moon.
And they [Gm]entered the forest and the [Dm]trees they hung low,
[Fm]everything was dark and [Cm]nothing there did grow [Ebm]apart from a single [B]yellow rose that the [A]boy put in his [D]hair
And [Gm]out of the forest, the [Dm]snow it did fall,
the [Fm]creature held the boy [Cm]away from the storm as out [Ebm]of the snow appeared an [B]empty platform,
and they [A]waited patiently for a [D]train.
[VERSE 6]
From [Gm]far in the distance a [Dm]train did arrive with a [Fm]thousand polar bears [Dm]passengers inside,
the [Ebm]creature said to the boy "are you [B]ready for the ride" and the [A]boy said" [D]yes I think I am"
So they [Gm]sped through the hills and over [Dm]mountains they did [Fm]go, over old wooden bridges [Cm]withered from the cold
and the [Ebm]boy stared out of the [B]window and [A]smiled at all he could [D]see
They [Gm]travelled through the desert [Dm]to the setting sun, over [Fm]streams and rivers to [Cm]where it all begun,
and through the [Ebm]wind and the rain until the [B]days were done, they [A]rode through the [D]land
[VERSE 7]
[Gm]All of a sudden, the [Dm]train it did stop, the [Fm]creature said to the boy "this is [Cm]where we both get off",
and all the polar [Ebm]bears climbed to the [B]top of the train to w[A]ave their g[D]oodbyes
Now [Gm]alone, they walked through a [B]featureless land, no [Fm]blade of grass,
no [Cm]grain of sand, and [Ebm]on the horizon a [B]great sea did stand and the [A]creature said " this is where I must [D]go"
And [Gm]at the waters edge, [Dm]nothing more was said, the [Fm]boy looked at the creature, not a [Cm]single tear was shed,
and the [Ebm]creature laid his hand upon the [B]boys head, and [A]gave him a [D]wink of his eye
The [Gm]creature turned around and walked [Dm]slowly to the sea, to [Fm]go to a place where [Cm]forever he would be,
and with [Ebm]one great leap he [B]leapt into sea and in the [A]blink of an eye he was [D]gone.
The [Gm]boy stood still, [Dm]alone now on the shore, he [Fm]stared into the distance and [Cm]hoped there would be more,
and the [Ebm]yellow rose it [B]fell to the floor and [A]drifted away on the [D]wind.
