My Dirty Stream The Hudson River Song Chords & Lyrics - Pete Seeger

[INTRO]
[D] [A7] [D] [A7]

[VERSE 1]
[D] Sailing down my dirty stream
Still I [Em]love it and I'll keep the [D]dream [A7]
That some [D]day, though maybe not this year
My Hudson [Em]River will [A7]once again run [D]clear
It starts [D]high in the mountains of the north
Crystal [Em]clear and icy trickles [A7]forth
With just a [D]few floating wrappers of chewing gum
Dropped by some [Em]hikers to [A7]warn of things to [D]come [A7]

[VERSE 2]
[D] At Glens Falls, five thousand honest hands
Work at the [Em]consolidated paper [D]plant [A7]
Five [D]million gallons of waste a day
Why should we [Em]do it [A7]any other [D]way?
Down the [D]valley one million toilet chains
Find my [Em]Hudson so convenient place to [A7]drain
And [D]each little city says, "Who, me?
Do you [Em]think that [A7]sewage plants come [D]free?" [A7] [D] [A7]

[VERSE 3]
Out in the [D]ocean they say the water's clear
But [Em]I live right at Beacon [D]here [A7]
Half [D]way between the mountains and the sea
Tacking [Em]to and fro this [A7]thought returns to m[D]e
[D]Sailing down my dirty stream
Still [Em]I love it and I'll [A7]dream
That some [D]day, though maybe not this year
My Hudson [Em]River will [A7]once again run [D]clear
