Lyrics
Artist: Marty Stuart
Tuning: Standard
Capo: 1st fret

This was probably the last song that Johnny Cash ever wrote, and it's a good thing
that he wrote it with Marty Stuart, as he's somebody who knows how to carry on the
traditions that Cash had been laying down since the 1950s. It's also fitting that
it's a prison song. If you haven't already, then check out all the other songs on
this album, as it's definitely one of Stuart's finest (except the song 'Porter
Wagoner's Grave'... that's s**t).

I killed an[A]other man today,[D] it's hard to beli[A]eve,
That [E]I lost count at thirty, and I've gr[A]own too numb to grieve.
The bo[A]ttle helps me cope, when [D]I lay down at ni[A]ght,
And when the d[E]ope rolls through my veins, it a[A]ll fades out of sight.

Ha[D]ngman, Hangman,
Th[A]at's my stock and trade.
Ha[E]ngman, Hangman,
Sending b[A]ad men to their grave.
But w[A]ho killed who? I ask myself,
T[D]ime and time ag[A]ain.
God have m[E]ercy on the soul,
Of this H[E7]angm[A]an.

And there's a w[A]oman down the street, named R[D]osalie McF[A]all,
She don't a[E]sk me any questions, wh[A]en I come to call.
Her b[A]ody keeps me warm, her wo[D]rds are soft and k[A]ind,
She ho[E]lds me in her arms, 'til the b[A]ad dreams leave my mind.

Ha[D]ngman, Hangman,
Th[A]at's my stock and trade.
Ha[E]ngman, Hangman,
Sending b[A]ad men to their grave.
But w[A]ho killed who? I ask myself,
T[D]ime and time ag[A]ain.
God have m[E]ercy on the soul,
Of this H[E7]angm[A]an.
