[C]Much of the ocean is [F]not yet explored
[C]Though submarines pootle [G]about the sea floor

[C]Of predation dynamics [G]down in the blue:
[C]From the tiniest plankton to the [F]biggest species yet,
[C]One thing they eat, by an[G]other are [C]ate.

[C]Here is where a di[F]lemma arises
[C]For the noble phytoplankton photo[G]synthe[C]sises
[C]And is thus confined to where the [F]sun shines through,
[C]And so by necessity what [G]eats them [C]too.

[C]But in the photic zone it is [F]easier to see -
[C]The surface is a dangerous [G]place to be.
[C]The darkness it offers sub[F]stantial protection
From be[C]coming some predator's [G]tasty con[C]fection.

[C]So to the surface fishies [F]travel at night
When there's [C]less chance of being es[G]pied in the light
But [C]during the day to es[F]cape predation
They [C]return deeper [G]down, and [C]that's diurnal [F]migration[C] .
