Broom O The Cowdenknowes Chords & Lyrics - Dave Gunning

CAPO: 2nd Fret

[INTRO]
[G] [C] [G] [C]

How [G]Blithe was [Bm]I each [C]morning to [G]see
My love came o'er the [C]hil[D]ls
She [G]skipped the [Bm]burn and [C]ran to [G]me
I [Am]met her with good[D]will

We [G]neither [Bm]herded [C]ewes nor [G]lamb
While the flocks near us [C]la[D]y
She [G]gathered [Bm]in the [C]sheep at [G]night
And [Am]cheered me all of the [D]day

[CHORUS]
[G]Oh, the [Bm]broom, the [C]bonnie, bonnie [G]broom
The broom o' the Cowden[C]know[D]es
[G]Fain would [Bm]I be in the [C]Old Coun[G]try
[Am]Herding her father's [D]ewes

She [G]tuned her [Bm]pipe and [C]reed so [G]sweet
The birds stood listening [C]by[D]__
And [G]even the [Bm]dull cattle [C]stood and [G]gazed
[Am]Charmed with her melo[D]dy

Hard [G]fate that [Bm]I should [C]banished [G]be
Gone way over hill and [C]mo[D]or
Be[G]cause I [Bm]loved the [C]fairest [G]lass
That [Am]ever yet was [D]born

[CHORUS]
[G]Oh, the [Bm]broom, the [C]bonnie, bonnie [G]broom
The broom o' the Cowden[C]know[D]es
[G]Fain would I [Bm]be in the [C]Old Coun[G]try
[Am]Herding her father's [D]ewes

[INSTRUMENTAL]
[G] [C] [G] [C] [D] [G] [C] [G] [Am] [D]

A[G]dieu, ye [Bm]Cowden[C]knowes, a[G]dieu
Farewell all your pleasures [C]th[D]ere
To [G]wander [Bm]by her [C]side a[G]gain
Is [Am]all I crave or [D]care

[CHORUS]
[G]Oh, the [Bm]broom, the [C]bonnie, bonnie [G]broom
The broom o' the Cowden[C]know[D]es
[G]Fain would [Bm]I be in the [C]Old Coun[G]try
[Am]Herding her father's [D]ewes

[CHORUS]
[G]Oh, the [Bm]broom, the [C]bonnie, bonnie [G]broom
The broom o' the Cowden[C]know[D]es
I [G]wish I [Bm]were in the [C]Old Coun[G]try
[Am]Herding her father's [D]ewes
