[VERSE]
King [F]Arthur's knights they [G]filled the table [C]round,
Save for [G]one who stood bef[Am]ore them.
For [G]once without a [C]weapon,
For [G]once he stood i[Am]n shame.
The [G]trial's charge was [C]treason,
And [G]betrayal of an [Am]oath.
And [G]should his guilt be [C]proven,
Death would [G]fall on traitor[Dm]s both.
The [G]knights would coun[Am]sel Arthur's hard [F]decision.
[CHORUS]
And [G]Lancelot, his [C]head held high [Am]said,
[G]"I'm tried[C] for lov[Am]e of Guinevere.
[G]My crime was [C]love."
[VERSE]
The [F]first to speak was [G]Kay with sharpest [C]tongue:
"He [G]is a man like[Am] any other.
The [G]word of Kings com[C]mand him,
His [G]heart does not [Am]obey.
For [G]all his strength and [C]boldness,
This [G]knight's spirit is too [Am]weak.
His [G]crime has no e[C]xcuses,
And no [G]favours may he [Dm]seek.
The [G]laws of Kings don't [Am]bend and can't be [F]broken."
[CHORUS]
And [G]Lancelot, his [C]head held high [Am]said,
&[G]quot;I stand[C] for lov[Am]e of Guinevere.
For[G] pride in [C]love."
Like this it goes on with an exception in Verse 4:
"I know this knight right well," spoke bold Gawain,
"And he has ever stood beside me.
With steel he's answered insults,
Defended chivalry.
And oft this man contended
For the honour of your wife.
His actions were not proper,
But should not cost him his life.
His service past should earn of you some mercy."
And Lancelot his head held high said,
"I fought for love of Guinevere.
I'll fight for love."
Sir [F]Tristan spoke, &qu[G]ot;I love my unc[C]le's wife.
For [G]her I gladly su[Am]ffer,
She i[G]s my heart's [C]delight.
[G]Iseult, the one who [Am]tempts me,
And [G]she for whom [Am]I'm pure.
My [G]love for her con[C]founds me,
And is [G]all of which I'[Dm]m sure.
I [G]understand my [Am]brother's co[F]ntradictions."
And Lancelot, his head held high said,
"I cry my love for Guinevere.
I've cried for love."
Spoke Galahad, the purest of them all:
"Have no fear of predilection.
For though he is my father,
He is my source of shame.
He joined in sinful union
With my unbeguiling mother.
And for all his claim at virtue,
He has gone and bed another.
The laws of God declare this act damnation."
And Lancelot, his head held high said,
"I lie in love with Guinevere.
I've lied for love."
As Arthur wept, he called the wrath of heaven
On the lovers who'd betrayed him.
On the knight he had called 'brother'
Thought worthy of his trust.
On the queen who'd hid deception,
Yet could say she loved him still.
For lost innocence and beauty,
And in justice for their guilt.
King Arthur knew the only price for treason.
And Lancelot, his head held high said,
"I'll die in love with Guinevere.
I'd die for love."
I know it's kinda "old language" and quite much to learn by heart, but trust me, it's
easy if you listen to the song a lot.
There exist different spellings for "Iseult" like "Isolde" or "Isolt", I chose this one
because to me it sounds like what she sings.
Good luck and corrections are always welcome!
