The Pretender Chords & Lyrics - Jake Wesley Rogers

[VERSE 1]
[D]He picked me from my parents home
He [G]took me to the l[A]atest showing of a [E]movie [Bm]
I don't [D]remember well
'Cause [G]all I see is him
Rugged in the [A]wind

He [D]lit me up

Rewrote my name
He [G]smoked his weed and I h[A]esitated
Oh [Bm]Heavenly Father, if I [D]sin
Will you [G]ever look at me the [A]same again?

[CHORUS]
He was [G]champagne, I was [A]underaged
D[D]rinking on a bender [G]
[G]It was better b[A]eing the pretender [D]

[G] [A]

[VERSE 2]
L[D]ightning storm on my sweet sixteen
I [G]locked my door, t[A]old him my teenage dreams
And [Bm]we embraced like the s[A]and and the [D]sea
I h[G]anded over contraband p[A]arts of me

[Bm]After that, well I'm [D]sure you know
He n[G]ever called again
His h[A]eadlights never showed
The [Bm]rest, I guess is [D]history
A[G]ll I see is him
R[A]ugged in the wind

[CHORUS]
He was c[G]hampagne, I was [A]underaged
[D]Drinking on a [A]bender [G]
It was better than [A]being the pretender [D] [G]

[BRIDGE]
[A]Hallel[G]ujah, he l[A]oves me
Hall[G]elujah, he w[A]ants me
He wants me [Bm]not, n[D]ot, oh[G] [A]

[VERSE 3]
He was champagne[D]
I was [A]enraged
C[D]ussing like a [A]sailor [G]
So much harder f[A]eeling like a fail[Bm]ure [A]
I was f[G]oolish
But [A]he was the pretender [D]

[G] [A] [D]
