[VERSE]

[C]I was siitin in the celler with a trouble makin fella We used to call Dennis the menac[F]e
[G]two young boys In normal Illinois Barley had a couple bucks left between us[C]
[C]When the barman told us last call Well we weren’t about to put up a fig[F]ht
[G]We got up off our chairs and we climbed them stairs Made our way out into t[C]he night

[VERSE]
[C]It was 2 am as we walked on back to join some friends at the ho[F]use
[G]The town was dead and the streets were still - Too quiet for even a mouse [C]
[C]That’s when Dennis came up with this bad idea as he peered acro[F]ss the street
[G]Saw a clock on top of the laundomat building and I knew he wouldn’t be dis[C]creet

[VERSE]
[C]The menace said I’ll bet ya my next beer - That I can take this r[F]ock
[G]and bury it right here from this distance in the center of that old clock [C]
[C]Well he was certain that he’d made all the proper calculations to acco[F]mplish this amazing feat
[G]But the beer must have flooded that mental calculator Cuz his aim was off b[C]y 10 feet

[VERSE]
[C]And instead of harmlessly hitting that clock because his aim wa[F]s so damn low
[G]That rock that he threw with such abandon Smashed the laundromat’s picture [C]window
[C]Well before the broken glass had landed sirens were blaring tho[F]ugh town
[G]I guess the cops musta followed us outta the bar - and now the chase was on[C]

[VERSE]
[C]We ran about a block when we came upon a party going on in someon[F]e’s yard
[G]So We ducked right in and tried to blend which wasn’t really all that hard [C]
[C]But the law boys weren’t givin up so quick and they kept on trackin us [F]down
[G]And it wasn’t very long ‘fore they were upon us and had the menace pinned t[C]o the ground

[VERSE]
[C]Well I saw that and kept on runnin - when I heard someone yell Fr[F]eeze
[G]But there was no way that I was takin that advise and ran toward some bushe[C]s and trees
[C]When I came out on the other side I was in a car filled parking [F]lot
[G]Thought I’ll just hide under one of these baby’s - until things aint so hot[C]

[VERSE]
[C]So l tried to slide underneath a car like I’d seen done on TV [F]
[G]When I came to find the hard way - the tv shows were lying to me [C]
[C]I pushed my way up under that car - I was wedged like a damn door stop [F]
[G]But no matter how I tried I could only get one side - hidden from the cops [C]

[VERSE]
[C]So there I lay half exposed in that embarrassing positi[F]on
[G]Praying that God would get me out of this when across my field of vis[C]ion
[C]Walked two sets of shoes slowly - on the other side of the c[F]ar
[G]Old Dennis was being taken to his room behind the bar[C]s

[VERSE]
[C]Me I laid their quietly half expecting to be ca[F]ught
[G]Half exposed from half my head down to half of my t[C]oes
[C]But in just a short time the cars pulled away and the radios were go[F]ne
[G]Thank you Lord for letting me dodge that bullet and giving me this [C]song

[VERSE]
[C]I’m sure there’s lots of morals this story - co[F]uld benefit your life
[G]Like bad company will corrupt you especially after [C]mid night
[C]But the biggest thing I guess I learned my biggest take away [F]
[G]Is if you have a friend who’s nick name is menace you best just sta[C]y away
