[INTRO]
[C] [G] [G7] [C]
[VERSE 1]
[C]Carroll County's pointed out as kind of s[G7]quare
The biggest thing that happens is the [C]county fair
I guess that's why it seemed like such a [G7]big event
What we call the Carroll County [C]accident
[VERSE 2]
The [C]wreck was on the highway just i[G7]nside the line
Walter Browning lost his life and [C]for a time
It seemed that Mary Ellen Jones would [G7]surely die
But she lived long enough for her to [C]testify
[VERSE 3]
[C]Walter Browning was a happy [G7]married man
And he wore a golden wedding ring u[C]pon his hand
But it was gone, nobody kneW just [G7]where it went
He lost it in the Carroll County [C]accident [A7]
[VERSE 4]
[D]Mary Ellen testified he [A7]flagged her down
Said he was sick and could she drive him [D]into town
No one even doubted what she [A7]said was true
'Cause she was well respected in the [D]county too
[VERSE 5]
[D]I went down to see the wreck like [A7]all the rest
The bloody seats, the broken glass, the [D]tangled mess
But I found something no one else had [A7]even seen
Behind the dash in Mary's crumpled [D]up machine [B] [E]
[VERSE 6]
A [E]little match box circled by a [B7]rubber band
And inside the ring from Walter [E]Browning's hand
It took awhile to [E7]figure out just [B7]what it meant
The truth about the Carroll County [E]accident
[VERSE 7]
By [E]dark of night I [E7]dropped the ring in[B7]to a well
And took a sacred oath that I would [E]never tell
The truth about the [E7]Carroll County a[B7]ccident
Cause the County ordered dad a marble [E]monument
[OUTRO]
I [B7]lost him in the Carroll County a[E]ccident
