The Ballad Of Stringbean And Estelle Chords & Lyrics - Sam Bush

[VERSE]
[Em]On Ridgetop, Tennessee in 1973
The Brown Boys killed [Bm]Stringbean and [Em]Estelle
[Em]The reason for it all is in the bib of his overalls
Least that's what the [Bm]Brown Boys would [Em]tell

[Bm]The thieves laid in wait for [Em]hours
[Bm]But things didn't go their [Em]way
[Em]It was just a simple plan, to rob a banjo man
But he wouldn't let go [Bm]of his Opry [Em]pay

[VERSE]
[Em]It must have been a terrible struggle
For the cash in his [Bm]bib over[Em]alls
[Em]The Brown Boys said don't give us no trouble
We came for some but [Bm]now we want it [Em]all

[Bm]And the thieves said "stand and [Em]deliver”
[Bm]But Stringbean would not [Em]tell
[Em]And later we would learn, there was a point of no return
They shot him dead and [Bm]then shot [Em]Estelle

[VERSE]
[Em]He saw no smoke from the chimney
So Grandpa knew that [Bm]something was not [Em]right
[Em]It would burn ever more in his memory
The picture of that [Bm]dreadful, awful [Em]sight

[Bm]And twenty three years [Em]later
[Bm]They tore the fireplace [Em]down
[Em]There was twenty thousand dollars
That the Brown Boys [Bm]never [Em]found

[SOLO]
[Em]
[Bm] [Em]

[Bm] [Em]

[VERSE]
[Bm]Well it seem like easy [Em]money
[Bm]But things didn't go their [Em]way
[Em]It was just a simple plan, to rob a banjo man
But he wouldn't let go [Bm]of his Opry [Em]pay
Now, String said you can't [Bm]have my Opry [Em]pay

[VERSE]
[Em]They say that nothing sacred
And now I have [Bm]seen it [Em]all
[Em]I read it in this mornings paper
They auctioned off [Bm]String’s over[Em]alls
