[INTRO]
[A]
[VERSE 1]
[A]Death ain't nothin' but a speckled pony ain't never been [D]rode
[E]That's what Freddy Jones he told me many bottles ago [A]
And [A]I guess Freddy was the best damn hand that would slip in his faded [D]jeans
Every[E]body said Freddy did everything bad but he never did anything [A]mean
[VERSE 2]
Yeah [A]death ain't nothin' but a speckled pony Freddy came to [D]know
[E]Readin' his motel bible in Vaughn, New Mexi[A]co
Now there's [A]lots of trails old man Freddy rode won't never be rode no[D] more
Cause he's [E]out there lyin' in a line shack dyin' with a chair up against the [A]door
[CHORUS]
And I re[D]call when Freddy told me when I [A]ride my speckled pony
I'm gonna [E]let that pony know he found a [A]man to ride him well
All my [D]friends have gone before me but I'll [A]ride him home to glory
Out of [E]nothing but my ornery and my pride in my own [A]self
[VERSE 3]
[A]Now can’t you hear that speckled pony he's [D]ridin' tonight
And old [E]Freddy Jones is just a workin' cowboy and he’s holdin' on[A] tight
In a [A]shack with a cot and a Coleman stove in the cold [D]panhandle wind
There's a[E] friend of mine that don't know his kind ain't never gonna [A]come again
[CHORUS]
Yeah I re[D]call when Freddy told me when I [A]ride my speckled pony...
I'm gonna [E]let that pony know he found a [A]man to ride him well
All my [D]friends have gone before me but I'll [A]ride him home to glory
Out of [E]nothing but my ornery and my pride in my own [A]self
