Pineola Chords & Lyrics - Lucinda Williams

When [G]Daddy told me what [F]happened
I [C]couldn't believe what he just [G]said
Sonny shot himself with a [F]44 and they [C]found him lyin on his [G]bed
[G]I could not speak a [F]single word no [C]tears streamed down my [G]face
I just [G]sat there on the [F]living room couch [C]staring off into [G]space
[G]Mama and Daddy went [F]over to the house to [C]see what had to be [G]done
They took the sheets off [F]of the bed and [C]they went to call [G]someone
Some of us gathered at a [F]friend's house to [C]help each other ease the [G]
pain
[G]I just sat alone in a [F]corner chair I [C]couldn't say much of a[G]nything
[G]We drove on out to the [F]country
His [C]friends all stood a[G]round
[G]Subiaco [F]Cemetery [C]is where we lay him [G]down
I saw his mama, she was [F]standing there his [C]sister she was there [G]too
I saw them look at us standing [F]around the grave and [C]not a soul they [G]
knew
[G]Born and raised in Pin[F]eola his [C]mama believed in the Pentec[G]ost
She got the preacher to say some [F]words so his [C]soul wouldn't get [G]lost

[G]Some of us we stood in [F]silence some [C]bowed their heads and[G] prayed
[G] [F] [C]
[G]I think I must've picked up a handful of dust and let it fall over his
grave
[G] [F] [C]
[G]I think I must've picked up a handful of dust and let it fall over his
grave
