[C]There's an old man who lives by the river
In an old log cabin with the [G7]cracks in the [C]wall

Makes his livin' by the catchin' of the fish
If he don't catch many well he c[G7]an't fix the w[C]all

[F]Oo-ee the [F]whistle of the wind
Nail up the boards where the w[G7]ind goes [C]in
[F]Oo-ee c[C]an't go to sleep,
Wade across the river where the w[G7]aters ain't d[C]eep

Old man prayed the big fish are bitin'
The time of the year it's l[G7]ate in the f[C]all

Winter's 'commin' the winds gonna whistle
Snow gonna blow through the [G7]cracks in the [C]wall

[F]Oo-ee the [C]whistle of the wind
Nail up the boards where the [G7]wind goes [C]in
[F]Oo-ee c[C]an't go to sleep,
Wade across the river where the [G7]water ain't d[C]eep

The old man Courted a pretty youg maiden
A maiden that he loved [G7]most of[C] all

She ran away with a cool river gambler
Cool river gambler, [G7]seven fee[C]t tall
