CAPO: 3rd Fret

[INTRO]
[Am] [Em] [Am] [G]

[VERSE 1]
It was [Am]seven months since 9/11
And the [Em]work was almost done [Am]

It was seven months since 9/11
And the [G]work had just begun
Ground [F]Zero lit the evening sky
Like a [Em]dagger through the heart
The [F]searchlights drove through heaven's gates
And [G]blew them far apart

[VERSE 2]
A [Am]few miles north on the Hudson River
We had [Em]gathered for a sort of wake [Am]

Nobody felt like celebrating
But the [G]Firemen needed a break
They'd [F]been to so many funerals
And seen [Em]so many terrible sights
[F]Been to Ground Zero from dawn to dusk
And [G]round the clock some nights [C]

[CHORUS]
From Kingdom come [F]
To hell and gone [C]
To somewhere far a[F]way [Am]
Where [G]murder does not [F]break the [Em]heart
On a [D]sunny day [Am] [Em] [Am] [G]

[VERSE 3]
I was [Am]all dressed up like the rest of the gang
At the [Em]Roxy Club that night [Am]

The men and women in uniform
[G]Tried hard to keep it light [F]

Kevin Bacon played and sang
And [Em]folks began to smile [F]
Chris Botti played his silver horn [G]

With rhythm and with style

[VERSE 4]
I[Am] sang the song 'Amazing Grace'
[Em]And people hugged and cried [Am]

Ronan Tynan sang 'Danny Boy'
G f
And not an eye was dry

Steve Buscemi spoke of life
At [Em]Engine 55
Of [F]how those firemen stayed the course
And [G]saved so many lives [C]

[CHORUS]
From Kingdom come [F]
To hell and gone [C]
To somewhere far a[F]way [Am]
Where [G]murder does not [F]break the [Em]heart
On a [D]sunny day

[INTERLUDE]
[Am] [Em] [Am] [G] [Am] [Em] [Am] [G]

[VERSE 5]
A [Am]burly man with a handsome face
Stuck [Em]out his hand and smiled [Am]
"Say, meet my wife, we like your songs [G]
We've been with you mile for mile" [F]

Though he had a rugged face
I [Em]thought I saw the hurt
[F]Then he pointed to a spot
Above the [G]collar of his shirt

[VERSE 6]
"Ah, [Am]just look there on the back of my neck
There's a [Em]tattoo, can you see?
[Am]Just right there", I got up close
And saw the [G]number 343 [F]

The number of those heroes
Who were [Em]lost on that black day [F]

The number of those firemen
Ground [G]Zero was their grave [C]

[CHORUS]
From Kingdom come [F]
To hell and gone [C]
To somewhere far a[F]way [Am]
Where [G]murder does not [F]break the [Em]heart
On a [D]sunny day [Am] [Em] [Am] [G]

[VERSE 7]
Those [Am]firemen loaded up with gear
Climbed [Em]to their deaths that day [Am]

Along with all the other hundreds
[G]Blasted on their way
[F]Police and EMS and those
On [Em]whom death took its toll
And [F]more whose dreams will never dawn
[G]More than three thousand souls [Am]

[VERSE 8]
I left the party after that [Em]
I couldn't stay my tears [Am]

For all our gifts for all our hopes
For [G]all our nameless fears [F]

For all our heroes, men and women
[Em]Lost on that black day
The [F]firemen with their courage
In their [G]hearts so strong and brave [F]
Who made sure in their final hour [G]
There were twenty thousand saved [C]

[BRIDGE]
They've gone to where [F]
There are no tears [C]
And every heart is [F]gay [Am]
They will not [G]be for[F]gotten [Em]
On a [D]sunny day [C]

[CHORUS]
From Kingdom come [F]
To hell and gone [C]
To somewhere far a[F]way [Am]
Where [G]murder does not [F]break the [Em]heart
On a [D]sunny day [Am]
Where [G]we can live in [F]peace all a[Em]gain [D]

On a sunny day_____
