[INTRO]
[Bb] [Ab] [Bb]
[VERSE]
It's just a pretty female, as [Ab]you may under[Bb]stand
Her mind being bent for rambl[Eb]ing into a [Ab]foreign [Bb]land
She dressed herself in sailor's clothes, or [Eb]so it [Ab]does ap[Bb]pear
And she signed with a captain, to [Ab]serve him for a [Bb]year
[VERSE]
The captain's wife, she being on board, she [Ab]seemed in great [Bb]joy
To think the captain had en[Eb]gaged such a [Ab]handsome cabin [Bb]boy
And now and then she slipped him a kiss, and [Eb]she would have [Ab]liked to [Bb]toy
But twas the captain found out the secret of the [Ab]handsome cabin [Bb]boy
[VERSE]
Her cheeks they were like roses and her [Ab]hair all in a [Bb]curl
The sailors often smiled and said, he [Eb]looks just [Ab]like a [Bb]girl
But eating of the captain's biscuit, her [Eb]colour [Ab]did de[Bb]stroy
And the waist did swell of pretty Nell, the [Ab]handsome cabin [Bb]boy

Twas down the Bay of Biscay our [Ab]gallant ship did [Bb]plough
One night amongst the sailors, a [Eb]helluva [Ab]flurry and [Bb]row
It tumbled the men from out their hammocks, their [Eb]sleep it [Ab]did de[Bb]stroy
Terrible cursin' and a-groanin' of the [Ab]handsome cabin [Bb]boy
[VERSE]
"Oh doctor dear, oh doctor," the [Ab]cabin boy did [Bb]cry
"My time has come, I am undone and [Eb]I must [Ab]surely [Bb]die"
The doctor come a-running and [Eb]smiling [Ab]at the [Bb]fun
For to think a sailor lad should have a [Ab]daughter or a [Bb]son
[VERSE]
The sailors when they heard the news, they [Ab]all did stand and [Bb]stare
The child belonged to none of them, they [Eb]solemn[Ab]ly did [Bb]swear
The captain's wife she says to him, "My [Eb]dear I [Ab]wish you [Bb]joy
For it's either you or I betrayed the [Ab]handsome cabin [Bb]boy"

Now sailors take your tot o' rum and [Ab]drink success to [Bb]trade
And likewise to the cabin boy that was [Eb]neither [Ab]man nor [Bb]maid
Here's hoping the wars don't rise again, our [Eb]sailors [Ab]to de[Bb]stroy
And here's hoping for a jolly lot more, like the [Ab]handsome cabin [Bb]boy
