[Am]On the 14th of May at the [C]dawn [G]of the [Am]day

[Am]With me gun on me shoulder to the [C]woods I [F]did s[Am]tray

[Am]In search of some game if the [C]weather [G]proved [Am]fair

[Am]And to see could I get a shot at the [C]bonny [F]black [Am]hare.

[Am]Well I met a young girl there with her f[C]ace [G]as a [Am]rose

[Am]And her skin was a fair as the [C]lily [F]that g[Am]rows

[Am]I said ‘Me fair maiden wh[C]y rambl[G]e yo[Am]u so?

[Am]Can you tell me where the bonny [C]black [F]hare do [Am]go?’

[Am]Oh the answer she gave me her [C]answer [G]was ?[Am] ??No

[Am]But it’s under me apron the[C]y say i[F]t d[Am]o go

[Am]And if you’ll not deceive me [C]I vo[G]w an[Am]d declare

[Am]We’ll both go together to hunt th[C]e bonn[F]y blac[Am]k hare.’

[Am]Well I lay this girl down with her [C]face [G]to the [Am]sky

[Am]And I took out me ramrod and me [C]bullets [F]likew[Am]ise

[Am]I said ‘Lock your legs round me an[C]d di[G]g in with you[Am]r heels

[Am]For the closer we get, oh the [C]better [F]it [Am]feels.’

[Am]Well the birds they were singing in the [C]bushes [G]and [Am]trees

[Am]And the song that they sang was ?[C] ??She?[F] ??s easy[Am] to please.’

[Am]I felt her heart quiver and I knew [C]what [G]I’[Am]d done

[Am]Said I ‘Have you had enough of m[C]e ol[F]d sportin[Am]g gun?’

[Am]Well the answer she gave me her [C]answer [G]was ?[Am] ??Nay

[Am]It’s not often young sportsmen like yo[C]u com[F]e thi[Am]s way

[Am]And if your powder is willing and your [C]bullets [G]play [Am]fair

[Am]Why don’t you keep firing at th[C]e bonn[F]y blac[Am]k hare?’

[Am]‘Well me powder is wasted and m[C]y bullet[G]s al[Am]l gone

[Am]Me ramrod is limp and I [C]cannot [F]fire [Am]on

[Am]But I’ll be back in the morning and i[C]f you ar[G]e stil[Am]l here

[Am]We’ll both go together again to hunt th[C]e bonn[F]y blac[Am]k hare.
